Securing an e-commerce site requires more than just a firewall. You cannot allow old orders to accumulate. I’ve seen sites where thousands of credit card numbers were still on the server. That’s a real danger, because many sites have no intrusion detection, and wouldn’t know if they were compromised. It’s also possible on some sites to retrieve sensitive information without breaking in.
If you process credit cards, it’s a good idea to have your security policies reviewed by a professional.
